1993 – 2023

On October 7 thirty years ago, the Northern Neck – Middlesex Free Health Clinic opened its doors for the first time, for an after-hours evening clinic in borrowed space at the Lancaster County Health Department.

Little did the dozens of volunteers at the time realize what a profound and long-lasting impact the Clinic would have on the community. Today the 10,500-square-foot Clinic is open five days and two evenings a week. Its Medical Clinic, with five exam rooms and an extensive referral network, and Dental Clinic, with six workstations and a partnership with the VCU School of Dentistry, together with a large Pharmacy serve close to 2,000 individuals annually.

Similarly, few grasped how much the community, with its heartfelt donations and dedicated volunteers, would define what the Clinic has become: the health care home for the area’s most vulnerable populations, those who cannot afford insurance or find providers to address their pressing and often chronic health-care needs.

Over the years the Clinic has served more than 18,000 individuals, filled 650,000 prescriptions, and delivered $135 million worth of health care services.

Thank you for 30 fantastic years of support. Not only would the Clinic not be where it is today without you, it wouldn’t be here at all. Volunteers together with staff have kept the Clinic running, and donors have kept the doors open.

The Clinic’s annual budget is $1,986,346. As 2023 begins drawing to a close, thank you in advance for keeping the Clinic in mind with your year-end donations. Gifts multiply many times over in the value of services provided. They are gifts of health and hope for thousands.
